PeacePoker interviewd Shiina Okamoto, who is a Japanese Poker player and performed well in 2023 WSOP as the Runner-UP in the Ladies Event.
Q1. What do you think is the reason for achieving good results in 2023 WSOP?
A : In the past six months, I was partly having more time to study, and also because my friends listened to me when I felt my mental state might crumble during play, which allowed me to stay composed until the end. However, the biggest reason seems to be because I was lucky. I believe having a slightly good performance in one series can happen anytime if you’re lucky enough.Q2. As you has been more actively playing poker particularly on last year’s EPT, since when did you play poker? How do you study poker?
A : I started playing poker about 3 and a half years ago. For the first 2 and a half years, I focused mainly on tournaments. However, in the recent year, I’ve been combining cash games to learn more about poker theory. My approach involves playing online, reviewing hand histories, and using solvers to analyze unfamiliar hands. Whenever there are still parts that I don’t understand, I seek advice from knowledgeable individuals to improve my skills.
Fortunately, I have been regularly attending study groups with highly experienced and knowledgeable players. Each time, I receive valuable insights and help from them. Regarding tournaments, I not only digest a large number of hands but also watch various videos to adapt to different playing styles. From broadcasts of top pros overseas to domestic tournaments and even local arcade daily tournaments, I try to watch a wide range of content.
When it comes to tournament strategies, there is limited content in Japanese, so I often search in English. GTO Wizard’s blog has been particularly helpful in this regard.Q3. Please tell us if you have any tips you would like to pass on to many female players who want to participate in overseas Poker tournaments.
A : There are not many tips unique to women, but if i have to say it, there are many cases that stand out at first sight, so leaving strong hands in the check range or replaying in SB may be negative for ChipEV, but it will appeal to the wide range of play early on. We are working hard to make it possible. I’m also trying to instill a dignified image, such as keeping my posture right and not fiddling with my phone, but I don’t know how effective it actually is. lolQ4. Lastly, please tell us about a goal you want to achieve in this WSOP series or a goal you want to achieve as a poker player in the future.
Tournaments have a strong element of luck, so I don’t have a specific goal, but I want my cash to exceed 100z.

今回のインタビューにご協力いただきありがとうございます、簡単な自己紹介をお願いします。
①今回のWSOPシリーズで良い成績を収め、現在the hendonmob Trending payers2位にランクインしています。
そして、現在開催中のメインイベントも上位でday3に進出されました。
今回のシリーズで成績が良い理由は何だと思いますか？
①この半年間時間ができてかなり座学に時間を費やせたから、また、プレイ中メンタルが崩れそうになったとき友達が話を聞いてくれたおかげで終始落ち着いてプレイできたからだと思います。でも一番の理由は運が良かったからだと思います。1シリーズの中で少し成績がいいことなんて運がよければいくらでもあることだと思います。
②Shiina Okamoto選手は、昨年のeptを中心に最近活発に活動しているポーカープレイヤーと認識してますが、いつからトーナメントを始められたのでしょうか？
また、ポーカーの勉強はどのようにされているのでしょうか？
②ポーカー を始めたのは3年半前です。最初の2年半ぐらいはトーナメントばかりしてましたが、ポーカーの理論を学ぶためにここ一年はキャッシュも並行して勉強しています。基本的にはオンラインでハンド数をこなして、わからなかったハンドはソルバーで解析して、それでもわからなかったところは詳しい人に聞いて落とし込むようにしています。ありがたいことに、とても意識が高くポーカーのレベルも高い人達の勉強会に定期的に参加させてもらっていて、毎回とても成長させてもらってます。トーナメントに関してはハンド数をこなす他にも配信動画をたくさん見ています。色んな人にアジャストできるように、海外のトッププロの配信から国内大会やアミューズメントのデイリートナメの配信までかなり幅広く見てると思います。トーナメントに関しては理論を勉強したくてもあまり日本語で書かれた記事がないため、英語で検索するようにしています。GTO Wizardのブログはとても勉強になりました。
③女性プレイヤーとして数々のトーナメントを回り、世界各国を回っていると思いますが、海外トーナメントに参加したい多くの女性プレイヤーに伝えたいTIPがあれば教えてください。
③あまり女性ならではのtipsはありませんが、、、あえて言うならやっぱり初見で舐められることが多いので、チェックレンジに強いハンドを残したり、SBからリンプレイズしたりと、ChipEVとしてはマイナスかもしれないけど、プレイに幅があるということを最初の方でアピールするようにしています。また、姿勢を良くして携帯をいじらない、など凛としたイメージを持ってもらえるようにしてますが、実際どれだけ効果があるのかはわかりません。笑
④最後に、今回のWSOPシリーズで達成したい目標や、今後のポーカープレイヤーとして達成したい目標があれば教えてください。
④トーナメントは運の要素が強いので特に目標はありませんが、キャッシュでは100zを勝ち越せるようになりたいです。
