The EPT Barcelona, the largest series hosted by PokerStars, successfully concluded its 14-day journey on September 3rd.
ESPT Barcelona and EPT Barcelona were held as consecutive events, attracting many players to Spain. In particular, the ESPT Barcelona Main Event set a new record with 7,398 entries this year, surpassing last year’s numbers, and becoming the largest entry in PokerStars Live Event history. The EPT Barcelona series has consistently grown in size, with increasing entries and prize pools each year.
At the heart of this growth are players from Korea and Japan. In this year’s EPT Barcelona, Korean and Japanese players achieved outstanding results in various events.
In the ESPT Main Event, which concluded with a total of 7,398 entries, Korean player Hanseok Ko finished in 32nd place (€15,580) in the money (ITM). Following that, in the ESPT High Roller event, Jun Beum Chun also cashed in 18th place (€21,680). ESPT Barcelona featured notable appearances from Argentina’s GPI POY top-ranked player Nacho Barbero, second-ranked All-Time Money List player Timothy Adams, and former football player Sergio Aguero.
The success continued in the main events of EPT Barcelona, which followed ESPT Barcelona. Korean player Wongyu Kang finished in 163rd place (€13,450) in the EPT Main Event, Japanese player Yuki Hmada secured 35th place (€7,720 + Bounty Prize) in the Mystery Bounty Event, and Hwany Lee placed 21st (€33,800) in the High Roller Event, all making it in the money (ITM).
The EPT Main Event was broadcasted through the PokerStars Live YouTube channel and the final table was played amid the cheers and excitement of the audience. The victory went to Simon Wiciak from France, who won €1,134,375 in prize money and the trophy.
In addition, there were several Final Table appearances and runner-up finishes in other side events. Japan’s GPI Rank 2 player, Tsugunari Toma, finished as the runner-up in the 50K Super High Roller Second Chance event, achieving the highest single prize money for Japanese and Korean players in the 2023 EPT Barcelona. Furthermore, Korean player Daewoong Song reached the Final Table three times and cashed in five times during the event, earning a total of €259,942 in winnings.
