PeacePoker interviewed Morita Mayuko, a professional Soft Darts player and poker player from Japan, who finished 18th in the $1,000 Ladies Championship and ITM.
First, please give a brief self-introduction.
Hello, I am Morita Mayuko, a professional darts player. It’s an honor to have this interview.
I started playing darts when I was 19 years old, and since 2013, I have been participating in the ‘Japan Pro Darts Tour,’ which consists of 18 domestic tournaments annually, and occasionally I also participate in games and events overseas. Currently, I am pursuing a career as a professional darts player, and three years ago, I started enjoying poker as a hobby. I occasionally participate in domestic poker tournaments, and I also challenge myself in Asian competitions whenever possible. This year marks my second participation in the WSOP (World Series of Poker).What is the difference between soft darts and steel-tip darts?
In Japan, if you have ever played darts, you have probably seen soft darts, which have screens and calculate scores for you. On the other hand, the darts that are broadcasted on platforms like DAZN and popular in Europe are called “steel-tip darts,” which have metal tips.
In Japan, there are two professional dart organizations: Soft Darts Japan and Steel Darts Japan. Both organizations use machines similar to the typical machines found in dart bars.How were you able to engage in such diverse activities, such as appearing in the media and operating a dart bar in Tokyo, while pursuing a career as a professional player?
In truth, the prize money for professional darts players is quite low. Many people who love darts are unable to make a living from it. Darts is a sport that people of various ages and genders can enjoy. Some take it seriously as a competitive game, while others play it for entertainment. It can be enjoyed indoors, regardless of the weather, and the necessary equipment is lightweight and easy to carry. With such a fantastic sport, I wanted to introduce it to more people and hoped they would love it too! I had a strong desire to increase the awareness and popularity of darts.
If the dart population grows, it would benefit not only the players but also businesses, equipment stores, and manufacturers. Ultimately, it would have a positive impact on both players and the entire industry, or so I thought (laughs). I have appeared on social media and TV programs to promote darts to a wider audience. I even opened a dart café that operates from daytime, catering to beginners. I have organized events in collaboration with radio stations, specifically targeting beginners.
Although I haven’t won any championships as a professional player, I believe I have a broad mindset. If I can raise awareness of professional darts and generate interest from other players, that alone would make me happy.
I have currently stepped away from managing the dart bar and am reserving my energy for poker, which I have become quite passionate about. However, as darts is still my main profession, I participate in all domestic competitions.
Mayuko Morita made a name for herself as a poker player by winning the APT Incheon #8 NLH tournament. How did you get into poker, and what was the turning point that led you to pursue it more seriously?
The first encounter with poker was through a fellow dart professional named Hideki Aizono. He was a very free-spirited person, someone who only did things he enjoyed. He was into poker at that time, so I imitated him, installed the app, and started playing without knowing the meaning of actions or betting sizes.
The turning point came when I visited Amusement Casino in Shinjuku to celebrate a friend I had met through my dart bar starting a part-time job as a dealer. There, I touched cards and chips for the first time, played offline poker, and started going to poker clubs every day.
At first, I didn’t openly express that I played poker because it had a negative image (probably associated with gambling). However, after Sammy announced the app for Texas Hold’em, I started talking about it publicly. The reason was that the professional tour I was participating in had a special sponsorship, and I, as an individual, was also a contracted player for DARTSLIVE, which was part of the same group. I wanted them to say, “A contracted player from the same group’s company is playing poker! She’s a dart player!” So, I started being open about it.
After publicly declaring my love for poker, I have enjoyed playing poker with professionals in the poker community, as well as store owners and enthusiasts from other industries.
The friends I made when I first started playing poker were professionals in the poker field, and meeting them was quite significant to me.Poker and darts indeed share many similarities. For example, they are both static yet dynamic, and they can be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders. However, both sports have a low representation of women. Are there any ways to overcome this? Also, as a female player, do you experience any discomfort or challenges?
Indeed, there are many similarities between the two.
In the current poker scene in Japan, there are fewer women, so I am grateful for the increased focus on women through various initiatives and tournaments, which provides more opportunities for us.
Honestly, due to the greater time and financial freedom that men often have for hobbies (as many women tend to give up hobbies and prioritize a family-centered life after marriage and childbirth), it is inevitable that the female population is lower. However, nowadays, there are more game arcades where women can easily participate, and the activities of poker YouTubers have made poker more approachable to those who don’t play. To increase the number of female players, it would be fundamental to create an environment where women can continue their hobbies even after marriage.
As for myself, I am looking for a potential husband who won’t get angry when I play poker and can enjoy it together (laughs).How do you study and improve your poker skills?
To be honest, I haven’t spent much time studying by sitting down and actively studying poker. Most of my poker experience has come from hands-on experience and the atmosphere of playing.
However, I do reflect on the situations I have encountered in actual games and watch videos to learn. In my daily life, I often turn on live streams of poker events on my smartphone in the morning, such as from Hustler Casino (laughs).
I believe that everyone has their own way of enjoying poker. While I understand that diligent players who study, accumulate knowledge, memorize numbers, and focus on improving their skills are respected, I personally play poker as a recreational player who enjoys it for the fun of it. Therefore, my primary focus is to continue playing poker without putting too much pressure on myself and enjoying the game. I feel the desire to continue playing.
(Actually, I’m a bit afraid that if I start studying too much, I might lose some of the spontaneity and action in my game, which is why I’ve been drifting away from sitting down and studying. Hehe.)
Many people are paying attention to the progress of Mayuko Morita as a poker player. Do you have any goals that you would like to achieve in the poker world?
As I mentioned earlier, I don’t have a strong desire to make a name for myself as a poker player. However, because I truly enjoy poker and play it during my breaks from being a professional darts player, I would like to achieve results that would allow me to hear “Great job!” from the sponsors and fans who cheer for me in darts. (I have been fortunate enough to win a few tournaments already…)
Additionally, I want to continue playing poker as a hobby based on my personal preferences rather than following trends. In reality, I am the type who wants to enjoy poker safely and for a long time, so I also enjoy cash games. However, tournament intensity is also very appealing, and I would like to challenge myself in tournaments where I can participate without putting too much financial burden on myself.
My goal is not to focus on rankings such as Hendonmob or Player of the Year, but rather to consistently play poker and aim to participate in prestigious tournaments in around five years (within the top 100 of the Japanese All-Time Money List). I have a slight desire for that.In addition to poker, I have many other hobbies such as traveling, hot springs, curry, and alcohol. If I were to travel to Japan, do you have any recommended travel destinations or restaurants?
Japan is known for its delicious food, so it would be great if you could try a variety of tasty dishes during your visit! In Tokyo, there are many restaurants to choose from (I recommend a burger restaurant called “挽肉と米珍珍” in Tokyo). If you’re traveling to other regions, Hokkaido is highly recommended.
Hokkaido offers not only sushi and seafood markets but also high-quality meats (beef, pork, chicken, and even Genghis Khan-style barbecue), as well as dishes like vegetable-rich soup curry and ramen. The taste of all types of food in Hokkaido is exceptional.
I also hope you get to try various types of Japanese sake, as it comes in a wide range of flavors and pairs well with different types of food. Sake is something I would definitely recommend.
Lastly, if you have the chance, I recommend visiting Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, which is a paid park (entrance fee is 500 yen). It’s a beautiful, spacious, and pleasant park to explore. Just be aware that bringing alcohol into the park is prohibited (laughs).Lastly, you have received high praise from Korean players as the “cutest poker player in Japan.” Do you have any plans to participate in poker tournaments held in Korea in the future?
I believe that everyone’s appearance is diverse and valuable, so I don’t consider myself the prettiest. However, I’m glad that someone has said such kind words about me (laughs). (Perhaps that person saw me as an “inbl” in darts 🎯).
In the future, my priority will still be dart competitions and events in Japan on weekends. However, I have plans to participate in the APT Incheon tournament at Paradise City in August. I won the title there last October, and I have a slight thought of aiming for a back-to-back victory.
Korea was the first place I visited after starting poker, and I found the image to be completely different. The food is delicious, and the people are incredibly kind and impressive. Since I only went to Incheon, I have thoughts of exploring Seoul or the bustling streets of Myeongdong, and I also want to visit casinos in Korea.

今回はインタビューに答えていただきありがとうございます。ポーカープレイヤーである前に、日本のソフトダーツのプロ選手として知られていますが、簡単な自己紹介をお願いします。
初めまして、プロダーツプレイヤーの｢まよんぬ｣こと、森田真結子と申します。
この度はインタビューの機会を頂けて光栄です。
私は19歳の頃にダーツを始め、2013年から日本のソフトダーツのプロツアー｢JAPAN｣に参加し、年間国内18試合と、たまに海外も試合やイベントで回っています。
現在はプロダーツプレイヤーとして生活しており、3年ほど前からポーカーが趣味になりました。
現在は、たまに国内のポーカー大会に参加したり、仕事の合間にアジアの大会にも挑戦しています。WSOPは今年で2回目の参加になります。
①2013年にソフトダーツのプロライセンスを取得されたそうですが、ソフトダーツとはどのようなスポーツですか？ 一般的なダーツとの違いはありますか？
日本で｢ダーツをしたことがある｣という人が殆ど目にしているような、画面が付いてて計算してくれるものが、｢ソフトダーツ｣です。
一方、DAZNとかで放映されている、ヨーロッパで盛り上がっているものが、先端が金属の針でできている、｢スティールダーツ｣です。
日本ではダーツのプロ団体は2つあり、両方が｢ソフトダーツ｣の団体です。
使用しているマシンは、ダーツバーに置いてあるような一般的なマシンと同じものです。
②プロ選手として活躍されながらメディアにも出演され、東京でダーツバーまで経営されていた事もおありですが、どのようにしてこのように様々な活動をされているのですか？
実は、ダーツのプロの賞金はとても少ないんです。
ダーツが大好きでも、ダーツで稼げない人達が沢山居ます。
職業年齢性別問わず色んな人が楽しめて、真剣に競技として取り組む人もいれば娯楽として楽しむ事も出来る、室内だから天候にも左右されずに楽しめて、必要な道具も軽くて持ち運びしやすい、こんな素敵なダーツにハマってから、｢こんなに最高なダーツのこと、もっと色んな人に大好きになって欲しい！｣っていう押し付けがましい想いと、
｢ダーツ人口が増えれば、お店も用品店もメーカーも潤って、結果的に選手や業界全体に良い影響があるのでは？｣という下心から(笑)、ダーツを多くの人に知ってもらおうと、SNSやテレビ番組に出演したり、ダーツ初めての方に優しい、完全分煙の昼から営業しているダーツカフェを開業してみたり、イベントに呼ばれて出るだけではなくラジオ局と組んで初心者向けイベントを企画をしたりしています。
プロ選手としては、優勝も出来ていない中でずいぶんと発信しまくって、出しゃばり屋さんだなぁと我ながら思うのですが、私をキッカケに｢ダーツのプロ｣の存在を知ってもらって、他の選手にでも興味を持ってくれたら、それだけで私は幸せだなぁと思っています。
現在は、ダーツバーの経営からは退いていて、ダーツバーに呼ばれてイベント行くのも、ポーカーにハマりすぎて少しセーブしています。笑
でも、やはりダーツプロが本業なので、国内の試合は全試合出場しています。
③あだ名の「まよんぬ」の由来とトレードマークの「キリン」のカードプロテクターとの出会いを教えてください。
｢まよんぬ｣って、独特なニックネームですよね(笑)
本名は｢森田真結子(もりたまゆこ)｣なのですが、実は中学生の頃についたあだ名が｢まよ｣なんです。
その前のあだ名が｢ベイビーフェイス｣で、次のあだ名が｢QP｣になりそうだったのですが、｢本名に近いしこっちのが良くない？｣ってことで｢まよ｣になりました。
その後、初めてのアルバイトが秋葉原のメイド喫茶だったんですけど、
｢まよ｣って名前で働いていたら、当時人気のあった他店舗のメイドさんの愛称を勝手につけられはじめて、｢まよんぬ｣と呼ばれるようになりました。
私、めちゃくちゃエゴサするんですけど、｢まよんぬ｣って名前はなかなか被らないので、呟いてくれている人を検索しやすくて、我ながらいいあだ名を付けてもらったなと思っています。
キリンは、昔から私の好きな色が黄色で、ダーツのユニフォームも黄色なんですけど、ポーカーを始めた頃に、カードプロテクターの存在を知って、私も欲しいなぁ〜と思っていたタイミングでガチャポンを見つけて。
5,6種類くらいあるのに、1発でこの子を引き当てることが出来たのが嬉しくて、そこから相棒にしています。
④Mayuko MoritaさんはAPT Incheon #8 NLHで優勝し、ポーカープレイヤーとして名を馳せました。どのようにポーカーと出会い、その後本格的に活動するようになったきっかけはありますか？
ポーカーとの最初の出会いは、同じダーツのプロをしていた藍園英樹という人です。
めちゃくちゃ自由人というか、自分の好きになった事しかやらないタイプの人なんです。
その方もダーツ1本で暮らしていたのですが、その人が当時ハマっていたのがポーカーで、真似してアプリを入れて、チップを上乗せする意味もベットサイズも何もかも分からないながら、やっていました。
きちんとハマったキッカケは、経営していたダーツバーでお手伝いしてくれていた子が、ディーラーのアルバイトを始めたということで、シャンパンをおろしに新宿のアミューズメントカジノに行ったことです。
そこで、初めてトランプとチップを触り、対面でポーカーをやってからは、もう毎日のようにポーカー屋さんに行っては勝てなくて散財していました😂
最初の頃は、ポーカーをやっている事がイメージが良くない気がして、(どうしてもギャンブル的な見られ方になってしまうので)表向きには発信していませんでした。
しかし、Sammyさんがエムホールデムのアプリを発表してからは、公言するようになりました。
っていうのも、私が参加しているプロツアーに特別協賛していて、私個人も契約選手をしている｢DARTSLIVE｣という会社が、セガサミーグループだったからです。
｢同じグループの会社の契約選手が、ポーカーやってるよ！ダーツの選手だよ！｣って見て欲しい下心があって、公表し始めました。笑
ポーカーを好きなことを公表してからは、ポーカー界隈のプロの方や、お店さん、他業界のポーカー好きな方とも仲良くさせて頂いて、とても楽しくポーカーを続けています。
ポーカーを始めてから、最初にできたお友達がポーカー専業の人達で、その人たちとの出会いも私の中でかなり大切な出会いだったなと思っています。
⑤ポーカーとダーツには共通点が多いと思います。 例えば、静的でありながら動的で、大人から子供、老若男女が楽しめるという点です。しかし、どちらのスポーツも女性の割合が少ないですが、それを克服する方法はありますか？ また、女性プレイヤーとして感じる違和感はありますか？
確かに、似ている所は多いですね。
日本のポーカーシーンでは、現在は女性が少ないからこそ、女性にスポットライトを当てた企画やトーナメントなども多く、より多くのチャンスを頂けていることに感謝しています。
正直、趣味をする時間や金銭的余裕を持つことが、男性の方が多いので(多くの女性は結婚や出産で趣味を諦め、家庭中心の生活になってしまう)、女性人口が少ないことは仕方ないのかなと思っています。
が、昨今は女性も入りやすいようなアミューズメントのお店も増えてますし、ポーカーYouTuberさんの活躍でポーカーをしない人にもポーカーが身近になっていると感じます。
女性プレイヤーを増やすには、女性が結婚しても趣味を続ける余裕を、パートナーや周りの協力で作り出すことが根本的な解決になるのではないかなと思います。
私がポーカーしてても怒らない、もしくは一緒に楽しんでくれる旦那さん候補を探しています。笑
⑥主にポーカーの勉強はどのようにされていますか？
実は、座学はほぼしたことがありません。
プリフロップのポジションごとのオープンレンジ表も、｢ふわっと見た事ある｣くらいで、ほぼ自分の今までの経験と雰囲気でポーカーをしてしまっています。
(気になるポーカープロのグループ講習会は行ったことがあって、めちゃくちゃひたすらメモしていました。)
でも、自分が実際に直面したシチュエーションを振り返ったり、動画とかはよく見ています。
普段も朝起きると、ハスラーカジノの配信とかをスマホで流しています。笑
ポーカーは、楽しみ方も人それぞれだと思っています。座学をしたり知識をつけたり数字を覚えたり計算して勉強をして強くなろうとする勤勉なプレイヤーが評価されることは分かっているのですが、
私は｢楽しいからポーカーをやっている｣くらいのレクリエーショナルなプレイヤーなので、｢どの程度強くなりたいと思っているか｣にもよるとは思うのですが、今の私にとっては｢無理なく楽しみながらポーカーをやる｣ことが最優先事項なので、今はまだこのままのスタイルで続けていきたいなと思っています。
(本当は、勉強してしまったらできないようなアクションが、私の中から失われていくのが怖くて、座学から身を離している部分もあります。笑)
⑦多くの人がポーカープレイヤーとして森田真結子選手の動向に注目していますが、ポーカー界で活躍する中で達成したい目標はありますか？
先程も言った通り、｢ポーカープレイヤーとして名を馳せたい｣という願望は、ほとんどありません。
ただ、本当に好きで好きでダーツの合間に海外に行ったりポーカーしているので、ダーツで応援してくれているスポンサーさんやファンの方にも｢頑張ったね！｣って言ってもらえるくらいの成績は残したいなぁと思っています。
(既に、幸運なことに何度か大会で優勝させてもらってはいますが‥)
また、いま流行ってるからポーカーしていることをアピールしている訳ではなく、大好きな趣味としてこれからも続けていきたいと思っています。
実は、｢安全に長くポーカーを楽しんでいたいタイプ｣なので、キャッシュゲームが大好きだったりします。
が、やはりトーナメントのハラハラもとても魅力的ではあるので、自分の実力と金銭的な背伸びもしないで出れるトーナメントには、挑戦したいなと思っています。
目標としては、、、ヘンドンモブの順位とかPOYとかは全く追ってないのですが、長く楽しく続けた結果として、5年後くらいには｢名人戦｣に出てみたいな〜(日本人獲得賞金100位以内)なんて願望は少しだけあります。
⑧ポーカー以外にも趣味がたくさんあります。 旅行、温泉、カレー、お酒、車道などなど。
もし日本に旅行に行くことがあれば、おすすめの旅行先やグルメはありますか？
※｢車道｣ってなんですかね、、？
日本は食べ物が本当に美味しいので、是非とも美味しいものをたくさん食べて帰って欲しいです！
東京にもお店は沢山あります(都内なら｢挽肉と米｣っていうハンバーグ屋さんがおすすめ。)
が、
もし地方に行くなら、断然、北海道がおすすめです。
お寿司や市場の海鮮はもちろん、お肉(牛も豚も鶏もジンギスカンも！)、野菜が沢山入ったスープカレー、ラーメンなどなど、全ての食べ物の｢美味しい｣のレベルが高いです。
あと、ぜひ日本酒を飲んで欲しいですね！
本当に色んな種類があって、どんな食べ物にも合うのが日本酒だと思っています。
あとは、新宿御苑という有料の公園(入場料500円)があるのですが、とても綺麗で広くて気持ちがいいのでそこもオススメです。
(お酒は持ち込み禁止なので気をつけてください。笑)
⑨最後に、韓国のプレイヤーから「日本で一番可愛らしいポーカープレイヤー」と絶賛されていますが、今後韓国で開催されるポーカー大会に参加する予定はありますか？
人の｢可愛い｣には色んな種類があってそれぞれが尊いと思っているタイプなので、｢一番｣では無いと思うのですが、そんなことを言ってくださる方がいるのは嬉しいです(笑)
(きっとその方にとっては、私がインブル(ダーツの真ん中)だったのでしょう🎯)
今後も、土日は日本でのダーツの試合やイベントが優先になってしまうのですが、今度の8月にパラダイスシティで開催される、APT仁川には参加する予定です。
去年の10月に優勝したタイトルもあるはずなので、2連覇出来たらいいなーなんて、ふんわり思っています。
韓国は、ポーカーを始めてから行ったのですが、行ってみて本当にイメージが変わりました！
食べ物は美味しいし、人も本当に親切で感動しました。仁川にばかり行っているので、ソウルや明洞の繁華街も行ってみたいし、韓国のアミューズメントカジノにも遊びに行ってみたいな、と思っています。
